Hungryroot has introduced SmartCart, an innovative AI tool featuring ten machine learning models integrated into an operations research algorithm. This advanced system analyzes millions of data points to provide personalized recommendations for healthy groceries, recipes, and essential supplements, according to a recent press release.

Customers utilizing SmartCart are finding that they order twice as frequently on Hungryroot compared to those who shop independently. Notably, around 90% of SmartCart users report achieving progress toward their health goals since joining the service, and they save an average of three hours each week on meal planning, shopping, and cooking. Additionally, they discover three times more food options than when shopping alone.

The technology behind SmartCart incorporates ten distinct machine learning models, each designed to identify the best foods and supplements tailored to individual needs. One model predicts desired food categories based on recent orders—like three smoothies and four dinner servings—while another model, developed using Generative AI akin to ChatGPT, analyzes past orders, cross-references data from other users, and employs machine learning to suggest optimal characteristics for future orders, such as low sodium, quick-to-prepare meals, or high-protein, on-the-go snacks.

Hungryroot’s SmartCart was developed entirely in-house, using newly written code by their dedicated team of data scientists. This cutting-edge tool is now available to all Hungryroot customers and has already contributed to driving hundreds of millions in sales for the company, marking the beginning of a new era of AI-driven healthy living.
