Greencore Sales Rise on Sushi and Ready Meal Demand
Greencore Sales Growth Driven by Sushi and Ready Meal Demand
Greencore reported impressive sales growth in the first quarter of 2025, fueled by high demand for sushi and chilled ready meals. The company’s latest financial results highlight strong momentum, reinforcing its position as the UK’s leading convenience food manufacturer.
For the 13 weeks ending December 27, 2024, Greencore‘s group sales surged by 7.5%, reaching £474.3 million. Its food-to-go segment also performed well, rising by 7.2% year-on-year to £314.7 million. Notably, total volumes increased by 2.6%, with sandwich volumes climbing 2.4%.
Key Drivers of Greencore Sales Growth
Sushi Category Expansion
Greencore’s sushi division saw a remarkable 15.3% year-on-year increase, driven by a newly launched range with a key retail partner. This expansion reflects growing consumer demand for convenient, high-quality sushi options.
Chilled Ready Meals on the Rise
Chilled ready meal volumes soared by 23.5%, fueled by a major new contract. This growth underscores the increasing popularity of fresh, ready-to-eat meal solutions among UK consumers.
Overcoming Industry Challenges
Despite rising labor costs due to National Living Wage and National Insurance increases, Greencore remains committed to efficiency. The company plans to offset these costs through automation, operational enhancements, workforce planning, and technology investments.
Future Outlook for Greencore
Greencore remains optimistic about its long-term growth strategy. CEO Dalton Philips emphasized that the company continues to progress toward its strategic objectives. “We are focused on delivering high-quality food, improving profitability, and strengthening our market position,” he stated.
The company will provide further insights into its medium-term growth strategy at its Capital Markets Event in February.
