Expansion Brings Full-Service Stores to Key Markets

Meijer Opens Supercenters in three Northeast Ohio cities this May, strengthening its footprint with fresh grocery and retail offerings.

New Stores Increase Market Competition

Meijer will open 159,000-square-foot stores in Austintown, Medina, and Richmond Heights on May 8. These supercenters feature groceries, pharmacies, electronics, and more.
This expansion mirrors Meijer’s previous openings in Alliance and North Canton and supports a broader investment across Northeast Ohio.

Walmart and Giant Eagle dominate the Cleveland grocery scene, but Meijer continues to push into the region with high-value, full-service stores.
By 2025, Meijer plans to invest nearly $500 million to build and remodel nearly 20 locations in the region.

Growth Reflects Long-Term Ohio Commitment

Meijer opened its first Ohio store in 1981. With these new locations, the retailer will operate 58 stores across the state.
The Austintown location will also include a Meijer Express gas station, enhancing local convenience even further.

Meijer’s presence in Ohio now includes more than 13,000 employees and extends to distribution and manufacturing in Tipp City.

Community Impact and Long-Term Vision

Todd Anderson, VP of the Ohio region, said,

This strategic growth signals Meijer’s confidence in consumer demand for high-quality grocery and retail experiences in competitive markets.
