Walmart Beef Facility Opens in Olathe to Boost Midwest Supply

The new Walmart beef facility in Olathe, Kansas, marks a major step forward in the retailer’s growing meat supply chain.

This 300,000-square-foot site processes and packages fresh Angus beef cuts, sourced directly from Sustainable Beef LLC. The products now head to Walmart locations across the Midwest.

Walmart Strengthens Control Over Beef Supply

Walmart first entered the beef industry in 2019. The company wanted more control over quality and consistency for its Angus beef products.

Since then, Walmart has invested heavily in building an end-to-end beef supply chain. This includes processing, packaging, and distribution.

The new Olathe facility, owned and operated by Walmart, created over 600 jobs for the region. This investment reflects the company’s commitment to strengthening domestic food production.

More Than Just Beef

Walmart has applied a similar approach to its dairy operations. The company opened milk processing plants in Indiana and plans to open two more in Georgia and Texas.

This strategy gives Walmart greater oversight of product quality, supply reliability, and pricing—key factors for staying competitive.

Walmart’s Broader Expansion Plans

Along with the Walmart beef facility, the retailer is restructuring parts of its fulfillment network.

In Texas, Walmart will transfer operations from its Fort Worth fulfillment center to a high-tech facility in Lancaster. Additionally, three other sites in the Dallas area will support operations.

Affected employees can transfer roles and receive a $7,500 relocation bonus, plus other benefits.

Job Creation and Local Investment

Walmart’s continued investments, like the new beef and dairy facilities, bring significant job opportunities. They also help secure the supply of essential products for U.S. consumers.

By partnering with Sustainable Beef and building processing sites, Walmart reduces dependence on third-party suppliers. This benefits both customers and the company.

What This Means for Shoppers

For Walmart customers, these moves translate to fresher, more consistent beef products. Moreover, Walmart can better manage pricing and supply levels during market disruptions.

As food supply chains face ongoing challenges, steps like these give retailers an edge—and offer customers more peace of mind.
