Albertsons Partners with Preferabli to Revolutionize Grocery Shopping. has teamed up with Preferabli to transform the way shoppers choose wine, making the process more personalized and intuitive than ever before. Through this collaboration, Albertsons’ direct-to-consumer wine shipping platform, Vine & Cellar Reserve, will integrate Preferabli’s Sensorial AI technology into its digital product pages, offering shoppers tailored wine recommendations based on individual preferences.

This partnership marks a significant step forward in grocery retail innovation, combining advanced machine learning technology with a personal touch. “We’re imagining a world driven by individual preferences, using machine intelligence with human touch,” said Preferabli Co-Founder and CEO Pam Dillon. Preferabli’s technology uses a proprietary database with hundreds of characteristics for each wine, offering shoppers personalized, taste-based recommendations instead of relying on crowdsourced data.

The technology is as intuitive as a human expert and allows consumers to voice their preferences, starting their journey of wine discovery. “No other platform has our domain expertise or depth of quality data,” said Preferabli Co-Founder and CTO Andrew Sussman.

Albertsons launched Vine & Cellar Reserve last year, a curated online wine collection available exclusively to customers of Safeway, Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilions in California. The platform offers a diverse selection of wines, from everyday favorites to specialty selections from smaller, lesser-known vineyards around the world, many of which are unavailable at national supermarket retailers. Wines range in price from $10 to over $1,000 per bottle.

Curtis Mann, Group Vice President of Alcohol for Albertsons Cos. and Master of Wine, said, “By partnering with Preferabli, we’re helping customers receive personalized recommendations based on their individual preferences and ultimately, discover new wines.”

Preferabli’s machine learning technology, protected by 12 patents, was developed by a team of PhDs in physiology and applied mathematics, alongside the largest group of Masters of Wine and Master Sommeliers in the world. This collaboration will help solve the “paradox of choice” in grocery retail, enabling customers to dynamically find wines that match their unique tastes.

Albertsons’ expanding wine portfolio now includes private label wines such as Vinaforé, Signature Reserve, O Organics, and Kaylana wines, further solidifying its position in the growing wine market. With its 2,267 stores across 34 states and the District of Columbia, Albertsons continues to innovate and lead the grocery retail space.
