Instacart Health Partnership Brings Nutritious Food Access to New York Communities

Instacart has announced a new Instacart health partnership with Northwell Health, New York’s largest health system, to improve access to healthy food. This effort focuses on providing grocery stipends and nutritional tools for expectant mothers in underserved communities.

The collaboration targets maternal health for Black and Brown communities through Northwell’s Center for Maternal Health Maternal Outcomes and Morbidity Collaborative. Participants can shop for healthy groceries using Northwell’s Healthy Choices Storefront on the Instacart app.

How the Instacart Health Partnership Works

The program provides expectant mothers with Fresh Funds, Instacart’s grocery stipend system, to buy nutritious groceries conveniently through the app. Participants also receive nutritional guidance to help make healthier food choices.

“Health goes beyond hospitals and doctor visits,” said Debbie Salas-Lopez, Northwell’s senior vice president of Community Wellness. “This partnership provides real tools to access healthy food and improve community health.”

Instacart leverages its delivery network and health-focused technology to support this mission. By combining resources, the Instacart health partnership addresses nutrition barriers that affect both moms and babies.

Improving Maternal Health with Nutrition

Research shows proper nutrition during pregnancy reduces risks of complications and improves long-term health for both mothers and infants. This initiative ensures families can conveniently access the nutritious foods they need.

Sarah Mastrorocco, vice president of Instacart Health, emphasized the company’s role. “We’re proud to support community health programs that make expert nutrition advice accessible and actionable,” she stated.

A Step Toward Healthier Communities

The Instacart and Northwell partnership reflects a broader effort to advance health equity in New York. It combines food access, education, and technology to create lasting community impact.
