Smarter Shelves with Store View

Real-Time Shelf Visibility

The new Store View system uses computer vision and artificial intelligence to analyze store shelf conditions. Workers record short videos, and the AI tracks what’s available, what’s running low, and what’s missing. These data points help update Instacart’s prediction models for better replacement accuracy.

Additionally, Instacart plans to add outward-facing cameras to its Caper Carts. These will provide inventory updates every hour in some stores, which increases stock transparency and supports faster corrections.

When a product is out of stock at one location, Instacart’s system can now alert a nearby shopper to check a second store. This is possible because over half of all Instacart orders are accepted by workers already near the store. By using their proximity, Instacart can solve stock problems quickly.

This feature ensures more accurate orders while avoiding last-minute substitutions that often frustrate customers. That’s essential, since 5% of users express dissatisfaction with their replacement items.

A Massive Data Engine

Instacart’s 600,000 workers collect over 10 million shelf data points daily. This continuous feedback loop powers the Instacart out-of-stock tools, sharpening inventory awareness across thousands of stores.

According to the company, up to 60% of store inventory data is inaccurate. With Store View, Instacart improves precision, reduces guesswork, and helps retailers close the data gap.

Tools Rolling Out Nationwide

Store View will first launch with selected partners, then expand across the U.S. and Canada in 2025. Second Store Check will begin appearing across Instacart’s marketplace in the coming months, enhancing support for every shopper.
