Instacart Quality Scores Aim to Boost Shopper Performance and Transparency

New Rating System Focuses on Worker Accuracy

Instacart is rolling out a performance tool that rates shoppers based on accuracy, item condition, and fulfillment. The Instacart quality scores aim to give workers a clear picture of how well they shop. These scores will reflect controllable actions like item selection and replacements, not issues like out-of-stock inventory.

Scoring Based on Verified Data

The quality score will range from “Needs work” to “Good,” using only verified and legitimate issues. Instacart ensures that shoppers won’t be penalized for problems outside their control. Factors like store inventory levels and shopping times will also be considered in the score’s calculation.

Shoppers will need to complete at least 20 orders within 90 days for a score to appear. Picking requested items and providing suitable replacements will increase their score. Conversely, damaged goods and incorrect orders will lower it.

Scores to Influence Worker Rewards

Later in the year, scores will determine access to the Cart Star program, which offers perks and batch access. Although these Instacart quality scores won’t affect pay at launch, they offer workers insights into their performance.

Instacart also upgraded its feedback verification system. Now, customers must give photo evidence and detailed claims before reports affect a shopper’s score. This new system promotes fairness and helps workers understand customer complaints.
