Loblaw Opens Its 300th No Frills Store
Loblaw, a major Canadian grocery retailer, recently celebrated a milestone with the opening of its 300th No Frills store in Mississauga, Ontario. This new 40,000-square-foot store, named Raman’s No Frills, features rotisserie chicken, an in-store bakery, and a selection of organic and gluten-free products.
This expansion is part of Loblaw’s broader strategy to grow its No Frills brand, with the company aiming to open 40 new stores this year. In addition to larger locations like the Mississauga store, Loblaw has also ventured into smaller formats, opening a compact No Frills store in Toronto under 15,000 square feet—less than half the size of a traditional No Frills.
Loblaw is committed to serving underserviced areas with discount grocery options. The No Frills expansion is part of Loblaw’s $1.4 billion capital investment plan, which includes remodeling and converting nearly 600 existing locations into discount formats. As part of its value-driven approach, Loblaw is also piloting a “No Name” store format in three Ontario markets. These stores focus on reducing operating costs by offering a smaller selection of products (1,300 SKUs) and maintaining shorter operating hours.
Richard Dufresne, Loblaw’s CFO, emphasized that these efforts reflect the company’s commitment to delivering exceptional value to communities and expanding access to affordable grocery options.
