Meijer Launches Program to Expand Rural Health Care in Michigan

Meijer Expands Access to Rural Health Care Across Michigan
Meijer is taking bold action to improve health care in rural Michigan communities. The new Meijer rural health care program aims to help Medicare-eligible residents overcome barriers to better health.
The company identified critical challenges in these areas, such as fewer primary care providers, lower incomes, and higher rates of chronic conditions. Many rural communities also face unreliable internet access, food insecurity, and limited specialty care.
How Meijer Is Improving Rural Health Care
To address these issues, Meijer has partnered with Homeward Health, a leader in rural health care solutions. Their goal is to connect seniors across Michigan with essential care and resources.
Eligible Meijer pharmacy customers will receive personalized support to coordinate preventive care, access medications, and manage social health factors. This approach makes health care simpler and more accessible for rural residents.
Meijer’s existing presence in Michigan’s rural counties helps make this possible. All 43 Lower Peninsula counties served by Homeward have a Meijer pharmacy nearby. Rural counties in the Upper Peninsula also benefit from the program.
The Importance of Supporting Rural Communities
Meijer understands that rural Michiganders face unique health care challenges. Limited provider access and social factors often make care harder to get. With the Meijer rural health care initiative, the company is closing those gaps.
Jackie Morse, group vice president for Meijer Pharmacy & Health, emphasized the importance of this work. “We are improving care coordination and helping rural residents access the support they need,” Morse explained.
This effort highlights Meijer’s commitment to both health care and the communities they serve. The program offers hope for better health outcomes in underserved areas.
Meijer’s Ongoing Commitment to Michigan
Meijer, a family-owned Midwest retailer, operates over 500 locations across the region. The company employs around 70,000 people and remains dedicated to community-focused initiatives.
The partnership with Homeward Health reflects Meijer’s vision to support health and well-being, especially in rural areas that often face greater obstacles.
