Meijer to Open Small-Format Store in Michigan
Meijer Small-Format Store Expands in Clarkston, Michigan
Independence Market Offers Local and Fresh Groceries
The new Meijer Small-Format Store in Clarkston brings fresh, locally sourced groceries with a neighborhood-friendly shopping experience.
A Compact Alternative to Traditional Supercenters
Meijer plans to open Independence Market, a 50,000-square-foot store, on April 30. It reflects the company’s evolving store format strategy.
While smaller than traditional supercenters, the Meijer Small-Format Store still offers fresh meat, bakery, health care, and pet supplies.
The store also includes a café featuring Honcho Restaurant’s Latin street food and coffee, enhancing the local vibe and experience.
Moreover, customers will enjoy a floral shop and curated local products like Shaded Bloom Coffee and Cook’s Dairy Farm ice cream.
Continuing the Neighborhood Market Growth
Meijer began launching small-format stores in 2018, starting with Bridge Street Market in Grand Rapids.
Since then, it has opened locations in Detroit, Lansing, Royal Oak, and Cleveland, with more stores planned across Michigan and Ohio.
These stores provide convenient access to essentials while supporting regional brands and meeting the needs of each local community.
Alongside these efforts, Meijer continues developing Meijer Grocery stores and full-sized supercenters in other markets.
Local Sourcing and Community Connection
Each Meijer Small-Format Store selects local products that align with community preferences and consumer demand.
According to VP Justin Stricklen, community support has driven success by embracing the store’s local-first grocery model.
