Miner’s to Acquire Three Minnesota Supermarkets From S&R Quisberg
Miner’s Supermarket Acquisition Expands Its Reach in Minnesota
Deal includes two Cub Foods conversions and one store closure
Miner’s supermarket acquisition is set to reshape grocery retail in Minnesota’s Brainerd Lakes region. The company will take over three stores currently operated by S&R Quisberg, continuing its steady expansion across the Upper Midwest. The acquisition includes two Cub Foods locations and one Supervalu store.
As part of the agreement, the Baxter Cub Foods will permanently close. The Brainerd Cub Foods and Pequot Lakes Supervalu will be rebranded under Miner’s flagship banner, Super One Foods.
A Strategic Move to Grow Miner’s Presence
Miner’s Inc., based in Hermantown, Minnesota, operates 31 grocery stores and 11 liquor stores under the Super One Foods and Woodland Marketplace Foods banners. The Miner’s supermarket acquisition adds key locations and enhances service coverage in a competitive regional market.
Patrick Miner, CEO and president of Miner’s Inc., stated, “We are always looking for ways to grow our grocery business.” He also confirmed that all acquired stores will undergo remodeling following the rebranding.
Although the exact terms remain undisclosed, both companies announced the deal will close in September.
Supporting Workers and Community Transition
S&R Quisberg president Chris Quisberg called the decision “very difficult” but emphasized the importance of finding a good match for employees and local shoppers. Quisberg’s family has served the region since 1985.
Miner’s pledged to offer all 235 S&R Quisberg employees the chance to apply for jobs at Super One Foods. Both companies employ unionized workers represented by United Food & Commercial Workers Local 663.
That union secured a three-year labor agreement with both grocers last year. The deal helps ensure a smooth transition for workers affected by the changes.
Local Market Impact and Future Plans
In Baxter, where the Cub Foods will close, Super One Foods already operates a nearby store. Brainerd’s store conversion will provide customers with a seamless brand transition. Additional competition in the area includes Walmart, Target, Aldi, and local independents.
Miner’s will fully integrate the new stores into its operations, bringing fresh investments to each location. Remodeling plans aim to elevate the shopping experience for loyal customers.
The Miner’s supermarket acquisition is more than just a store transfer. It reflects a commitment to long-term growth, community support, and enhanced grocery offerings for Minnesota shoppers
