Natural Grocers Banks on Egg Sales to Boost Customer Loyalty
Natural Grocers Leverages Egg Deals to Drive Loyalty Signups
Natural Grocers Egg Strategy Targets Price-Sensitive Shoppers
Natural Grocers has launched a creative approach to build loyalty by focusing on a grocery staple—eggs. The Natural Grocers egg strategy taps into consumer frustration over high egg prices, which remain a concern despite recent cost declines.
Although prices have eased, shoppers still hesitate to buy eggs. In fact, egg unit sales dropped 10.3% year over year in April. A survey by Clarify Capital revealed that 34% of consumers stopped buying eggs altogether. Most said they won’t return unless prices fall below $5 per dozen.
Natural Grocers saw an opportunity to respond. The grocer introduced a limited-time promotion offering {N}power loyalty members eggs at just $2.29 per dozen. This sharp discount makes the store’s egg prices among the most competitive in the market.
Strategic Partnership Delivers Value to Shoppers
Contented Hen Promotion Attracts Loyalty Signups
To power this promotion, Natural Grocers partnered with Mid-States Specialty Egg, the producer of the Contented Hen brand. The discounted eggs are available from May 9 through June 5.
Customers can buy up to three dozen per visit at participating stores. In comparison, regular egg prices at Natural Grocers usually range between $3.99 and $5.49.
In Colorado—home to many of the grocer’s stores—the average wholesale egg price is $2.77. This promotion gives shoppers clear savings, which encourages both visits and additional purchases.
Marketing Campaign Sparks Record Engagement
Loyalty Program Growth Hits New Highs
Natural Grocers supported this egg strategy with a full marketing push. Social media posts, mobile app ads, email campaigns, and in-store signage all promoted the deal.
These efforts worked. Natural Grocers reported that {N}power loyalty signups surged during the promotion. Net sales penetration for the program grew 78% year over year in the second quarter.
That growth translated into a record-breaking quarter. Total net sales rose 9% to $335.8 million. Net earnings also hit a new high, showing that the loyalty-focused strategy paid off.
The Natural Grocers egg strategy is more than a simple discount. It’s a well-timed tactic designed to drive traffic and increase shopper engagement.
Frequent Purchasing Keeps Demand Steady
Weekly Ordering Meets Customer Needs
To manage rising egg demand, the store’s purchasing team places one to two orders per week. This keeps shelves stocked and supports consistent supply for loyalty members.
Director of Public Relations Katie Macarelli noted that mission-driven partnerships like the one with Mid-States Specialty Egg are central to the grocer’s values.
She added, “Customers who come in for eggs will likely purchase other items too, which boosts store performance even more.”
