How to Boost Retail and Consumer Demand for Organic Produce
How Retailers Can Increase Organic Produce Demand in 2025
Organic Sales Grow, But Retailers Must Do More
The rising interest in healthy food continues to fuel organic produce demand across grocery stores and online marketplaces. Consumers seek fresher, more nutritious options, making organics a key opportunity. However, the sector needs smarter retail strategies to unlock even higher sales.
At the Organic Produce Summit 2025, experts emphasized going back to basics. They advised retailers to offer more organic fruit and vegetable varieties. They also encouraged targeting a wider range of shopper groups. Most importantly, they noted that customer trust and perception still drive sales.
Retailers Must Understand Organic Shopper Behavior
Organic customers often spend more than average shoppers. They buy more ingredients and care deeply about quality and sourcing. According to Gianna De Caro of Soli Organic Inc., “Organic consumers are super-engaged in cooking. They fill their carts with complementary items.”
Sharing sales data and shopper insights with retail buyers can help them understand why organic options matter. These insights prove that organic customers boost both revenue and store loyalty.
Despite higher prices, many health-conscious buyers still choose organics. “For them, organic is non-negotiable,” said De Caro. This mindset shows why organic selections must stay visible and appealing.
Use Branding and Visuals to Build Trust
Products with the USDA organic seal continue to outperform others. The seal increases trust and suggests freshness, better taste, and higher nutritional value. Retailers must highlight this certification in both physical displays and digital listings.
Online sellers should apply creative web design principles. Kevin Byers of Smith Brothers Farms recommended bold banners, clickable content, and vivid product photos. “Consumers want fun and easy experiences,” he said. “Keep the shopping journey fresh and frictionless.”
Adding seasonal categories and cross-promotions with other grocery items also lifts interest and boosts organic produce demand.
Broaden the Appeal to All Demographics
Currently, millennials drive much of the demand for organics. However, other groups still remain under-engaged. Sandy Pfaff from the Organic Trade Association sees this as a major opportunity. “The industry must harness millennial momentum and expand its reach,” she said.
To attract new shoppers, retailers should educate them on the benefits of organics. They can use signage, social media, and targeted campaigns that match the values of each age group. With clear messaging and wider availability, every demographic can become more loyal to organic products.
