Walmart Canada Teams Up with DoorDash for Nationwide Delivery

Walmart Canada has partnered with DoorDash to offer delivery services across the country, making it easier for customers to get their Walmart orders delivered straight to their doorsteps. The collaboration will cover over 300 Walmart Supercenter locations across provinces, including Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.

Enhancing Convenience for Canadian Shoppers

This new service is designed to cater to Canadians who may need last-minute items, prefer shopping from home, or are pressed for time, especially as the holiday season approaches. Ignacio Baladron, Walmart Canada’s Vice President of Omni Channel & Online Grocery, highlighted the importance of the service in meeting customers’ evolving needs. With DoorDash’s quick delivery capabilities, shoppers can have their orders fulfilled without leaving the comfort of their homes.

Walmart Canada, which operates over 400 stores and serves around 1.5 million customers daily through its online platform, is expanding its offerings to make shopping even more convenient.

Competing with Instacart and SkipTheDishes

The partnership with DoorDash also positions Walmart Canada to more directly compete with other last-mile delivery services. Walmart previously collaborated with Instacart since 2018 and launched the Walmart Now service in 2022, which allowed for 30-minute deliveries. In mid-2023, the retailer also tested a pilot program with SkipTheDishes, focusing on meal deliveries with similar speed.

As DoorDash continues to expand its reach in Canada, the competition with these services is likely to intensify, making the last-mile delivery sector increasingly competitive in the grocery and retail space. The Walmart-DoorDash partnership strengthens DoorDash’s position in the Canadian market, especially during the busy holiday season.
