Walmart to Open First Grocery Store in West Haven, Utah

New Supercenter Brings Jobs and Services to the Community

The arrival of Walmart West Haven Utah marks a major milestone for the growing city. This 176,000-square-foot Supercenter will begin construction in late summer or early fall. The company expects to open its doors about one year after construction starts. West Haven Mayor Rob Vanderwood called the new store “a much-needed asset” for the city and surrounding municipalities.

This new location won’t just be large—it will also be advanced. The Walmart West Haven Utah store will include a drive-through pharmacy, a full-service fuel station, and a vision center. Customers will benefit from a full-service convenience store alongside the fuel station, making it easier to shop and fill up in one stop. These features reflect Walmart’s broader goal to modernize and personalize the in-store experience.

Part of a Bigger Plan for Growth

The West Haven project is one part of Walmart’s five-year plan to open 150 new stores and remodel 650 others across 47 states. The retailer also announced a $9 billion investment in 2023 to upgrade 1,400 existing stores nationwide.

In addition, Walmart plans to update or open over 45 fuel and convenience store locations in 2025. Dave DeSerio, vice president of fuel and convenience for Walmart U.S., said these additions reflect the company’s response to what customers want and need.

A Sign of Retail Expansion and Local Growth

This is not just a win for Walmart—it’s also a boost for West Haven. The new Supercenter will create about 300 jobs, from entry-level to management positions. It’s expected to attract other businesses and boost local economic growth, according to city officials.

Walmart’s last new Supercenter opened earlier this year in Cypress, Texas. That location introduced its Store of the Future concept, which includes new layouts, upgraded technology, and expanded services. The same modern approach is expected in West Haven.
