PCC Community Markets, the community-owned grocery cooperative in the Puget Sound region, has announced its return to Downtown Seattle with a new small-format store at 4th & Union. This move marks the co-op’s reentry into the area after closing its full-service store in January 2024. The new store will occupy a portion of the original footprint, offering a tailored selection of grocery items, hot and fresh prepared foods, catering primarily to office workers and downtown residents.

Continuing to uphold its commitment to quality and sourcing standards, PCC aims to replicate the shopping experience found in its other neighborhood stores. The decision to reopen in this smaller format was influenced by the success of the deli and prepared foods department from the previous store. The new store will feature about 6,500 square feet of space, recreating the best parts of its former operations while still offering customer favorites.

Despite the earlier store closure, PCC remains committed to its long-term lease obligations at the downtown location. Over the past eight months, the co-op’s leadership worked closely with landlord Wright Runstad to revitalize the space, aligning with the co-op’s focus on people, the planet, and profitability.

In addition to the new store, PCC plans to relocate its corporate offices to the adjacent space, reducing its office footprint to better reflect its post-pandemic hybrid work environment. This strategic move will also lower the co-op’s overall rent expenses, as it prepares to vacate its current office space when the lease expires in 2025.
