Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. (ACT), the parent company of Circle K, has finalized a definitive agreement to acquire GetGo Café + Market convenience stores from Giant Eagle Inc. This acquisition significantly expands Couche-Tard’s U.S. presence, with GetGo operating approximately 270 locations across multiple states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and Indiana. The stores offer a variety of convenience services, including made-to-order food and fueling stations, and employ about 3,500 people.

The deal also involves a partnership between Couche-Tard and Giant Eagle to continue operating Giant Eagle’s well-known myPerks loyalty program, a widely popular customer rewards program. Brian Hannasch, President and CEO of Couche-Tard, expressed excitement over the acquisition, noting the strong customer base and excellent food offerings at GetGo. He also highlighted the opportunities for future growth and innovation as both companies work together.

Giant Eagle CEO Bill Artman also welcomed the transaction, explaining that the acquisition allows Giant Eagle to focus on its core supermarket and pharmacy business while providing GetGo with a partner experienced in convenience stores and fuel operations.

The acquisition, expected to close by 2025, is subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions. Although financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, the transaction will be funded by Couche-Tard’s available cash or existing credit facilities.

Couche-Tard, headquartered in Laval, Quebec, operates more than 16,700 convenience stores across 29 countries, with over 7,100 stores in the U.S. under the Circle K banner.
