Alimentation Couche-Tard to Continue GetGo’s Food-First Strategy
Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. (ACT), the parent company of Circle K, has finalized a deal to acquire GetGo Café Markets, the convenience-store division of Giant Eagle. This move comes as Giant Eagle shifts focus to strengthen its core supermarket and pharmacy operations, allowing for more investment in its customer-facing services and brand positioning.
The sale, expected to be finalized in 2025, includes plans for Couche-Tard to retain all GetGo store, operational, and support staff. Giant Eagle’s CEO, Bill Artman, expressed optimism about the transaction, viewing it as an exciting opportunity that aligns with the company’s long-term strategy. He emphasized that the sale will enable Giant Eagle to invest further in its supermarket and pharmacy businesses, focusing on improving customer prices.
This acquisition will allow Couche-Tard to continue GetGo’s food-first approach, expanding its footprint in the convenience-store market, particularly in food offerings that have been a key part of GetGo’s success. Artman noted that this bold move will create future growth opportunities for both businesses, supporting their efforts to remain leaders in their respective fields.
