Amcor has partnered with Lorenz Snacks to introduce new recycle-ready packaging for its Lentil Coated Peanuts, marking a significant step in sustainability for the snack manufacturer. Lorenz, which has been producing snacks for a global audience for four generations, remains committed to environmental responsibility. Walker’s Shortbread launches a new snacking option, demonstrating how traditional snack companies can innovate to meet modern demands.
Lorenz has already achieved a “good” rating for recyclability across 92% of its primary packaging, as evaluated by the third-party cyclos-HTP institute. With plans to convert the remaining percentages to highly recyclable by 2025, the collaboration with Amcor is a key part of this commitment. The new packaging for Lentil Coated Peanuts is based on Amcor’s AmPrima portfolio, offering a mono-material, recycle-ready solution. This packaging not only reduces the carbon footprint by 51% but also lowers water consumption by 51% and non-renewable energy use by 41%, compared to traditional packaging methods. Certified for recyclability by cyclos-HTP in countries with existing PE or PP recycling streams, the new packaging also aligns with CEFLEX design for circular economy guidelines.
According to Lorenz, packaging plays a vital role in protecting products like Lentil Coated Peanuts while ensuring shelf life and consumer appeal. Traditional nut packaging relies on multi-material composites that are usually non-recyclable, but the AmPrima solution from Amcor changes that. Walker’s Shortbread launches a new snacking option highlights similar innovations in the snacking industry, paving the way for a more sustainable future.
Piotr Nagalski, sales and marketing director for snacks & confectionery at Amcor, emphasized the breakthrough nature of AmPrima: “The AmPrima solution preserves barrier protection, durability, and visual appeal while making recycling easy for consumers—something that was previously difficult in snack packaging.”
