Campus Corner, a new 1,800-square-foot grocery store launched by Associated Food Stores (AFS), has officially opened at Utah Tech University. This store is designed to meet the needs of the growing student population, offering convenience, fresh options, and innovative technology.

Situated within the newly built Campus View Suites, the store was established in response to the increase in on-campus housing. With over 1,600 students moving into the new dormitories, the university recognized the necessity for easy access to food and essentials, particularly for students who have limited time and transportation options. In addition to its wide array of products, the store is fully equipped with modern technology, incorporating AFS services like electronic shelf labels, self-checkout, and advanced inventory management systems.

“They aimed to create a space specifically for the university community,” explained Travis Hughes, the store’s retail sales counselor. “Students needed healthy and affordable options right at their doorstep so they can concentrate on their studies, and this store excels in that regard.”

While primarily catering to the students, faculty, and staff of Utah Tech University, Campus Corner is also accessible to the public, providing an option for the broader St. George community.

The project took around three years from inception to completion, with the last 18 months focused on designing and constructing the store. The grand opening coincided with the beginning of the fall semester and featured promotions, including free hot dogs, over 1,200 Sweet P’s cookies, and various discounts throughout the store.

With nearly 450 retailers in the Intermountain West, AFS, based in Salt Lake City, is a grocery retailer cooperative supplying independently owned supermarkets throughout the western United States. It ranks No. 73 on The PG 100, Progressive Grocer’s 2024 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America.
