The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has officially approved Müller’s acquisition of Yew Tree Dairy, a family-owned dairy company. This deal, which was first announced in June, aims to enhance production capabilities for the fresh milk and cream producer based in West Lancashire.

With this acquisition, Müller plans to leverage Yew Tree Dairy’s production capabilities for milk powder, enabling growth in its export business and bolstering supply chain resilience. The move is also seen as a step towards securing a positive future for the British dairy industry.

Initially, there were concerns that the acquisition could lead to a “substantial lessening of competition” within the UK dairy sector, necessitating CMA’s oversight. However, on October 22, the CMA closed the case, granting clearance for the deal, with a full text decision to be released shortly.

Müller Milk and Ingredients Chief Executive Rob Hutchinson commented on the acquisition back in June, stating, “Yew Tree Dairy has excellent processing capabilities, a talented team with great expertise, and strong relationships with its customers and supplying farms.” He expressed confidence that the two family-owned businesses would complement each other effectively.

Hutchinson further noted that the acquisition would allow Müller to tap into global dairy consumption growth, unlock additional export opportunities, and continue driving supply chain resilience.
