Costco New Stores: Expanding Nationwide in 2025

The retail giant is boosting its presence with six Costco new stores set to open across the U.S. in March 2025. These additions mark part of Costco’s larger plan to launch nine new warehouses globally this year. The new U.S. locations include Brentwood, Calif.; Highland, Calif.; Prosper, Texas; Weatherford, Texas; Genesee County, Mich.; and Sharon, Mass. Another Costco store will open in Stuart, Fla., in April.

Costco’s Growth Outpaces Walmart

Costco’s expansion reflects its steady growth, outpacing Walmart over the past five years. Michelle Evans, Euromonitor International’s global lead for retail insights, noted that Costco grew 7% faster than Walmart despite Walmart’s larger size. Evans shared this during the National Retail Federation’s Big Show expo in January.

Costco’s Strong Sales Performance

In fiscal Q1 2025, Costco reported impressive results:

  • Net sales reached $60.99 billion, reflecting a 7.5% increase year over year.
  • Comparable U.S. sales climbed 7.2%, excluding gas prices and foreign exchange effects.

In January 2025 alone:

  • U.S. net sales hit $19.51 billion, rising 9.2% from the previous year.
  • Comparable U.S. sales also increased 9.2% when adjusted for gas prices and currency shifts.

Rising Foot Traffic and Customer Loyalty

Costco’s foot traffic surged 4.6% during the week of February 10, according to http://Placer.ai data. This increase followed Costco’s decision to uphold its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) program despite opposition.
