Strengthening the Dollar General Distribution Network

Dollar General has expanded its supply chain by opening its first distribution center in Arkansas. This strategic move enhances the Dollar General Distribution system, improving efficiency in handling perishable and traditional products. The new North Little Rock facility plays a vital role in streamlining product storage and retrieval.

Investing in Arkansas’s Growth

The 1 million-square-foot distribution center reflects a $160 million investment and is expected to create 300 new jobs in Pulaski County. According to Rod West, Dollar General’s Executive Vice President of Global Supply Chain, this facility will improve support for store teams and enhance customer service. The integration of DG Fresh and Private Fleet distribution functions reinforces the company’s focus on improved logistics.

Overcoming Supply Chain Challenges

Dollar General faced supply chain issues in 2022, when seasonal product deliveries arrived earlier than expected, causing storage difficulties. By investing in automation-driven distribution centers, the company aims to improve inventory management and order accuracy. The new Arkansas site joins other modernized facilities designed to address these challenges effectively.

Expanding the National Distribution Network

The Arkansas facility follows recent distribution center openings in Blair, Nebraska; Newnan, Georgia; Fort Worth, Texas; and Aurora, Colorado. The Arkansas and Colorado sites incorporate advanced automation to enhance storage efficiency and streamline order fulfillment. CEO Todd Vasos emphasized that automation will improve inventory control and strengthen store service levels.

Supporting the Local Community

Dollar General has maintained a presence in Arkansas since opening its first store in the state in 1975. Alongside the new distribution center, the company donated $20,000 to the Arkansas Food Bank to support local families.

Currently operating over 20,500 stores across the U.S., Dollar General continues to expand strategically while reinforcing its commitment to improving supply chain efficiency.
