DoorDash Shows How Delivery Helps SNAP Consumers Access Groceries
Since the launch of SNAP on the DoorDash platform a year ago, over 1.8 million consumers have linked their SNAP/EBT cards to DoorDash
DoorDash has unveiled an independent survey targeting SNAP consumers, titled “How Online Grocery Delivery with SNAP Broadens Food Access Across the U.S.” The survey reveals that grocery delivery enhances access to nutritious food, saves time, and simplifies the process of purchasing affordable meals. Additionally, DoorDash has introduced online SNAP/EBT capabilities at new retailers nationwide. Since the launch of SNAP on the DoorDash platform a year ago, over 1.8 million consumers have linked their SNAP/EBT cards to the service.
According to DoorDash, 78% of surveyed SNAP recipients prefer using their benefits for grocery delivery instead of in-store shopping. Moreover, one in eight respondents indicated they would forgo some grocery purchases if delivery options weren’t available. Impressively, 93% of consumers reported that online grocery shopping allows them to free up time for other activities. DoorDash Shows How Delivery Helps SNAP Consumers Access Groceries.
“I don’t drive due to my disability, and public transportation is tough in my city,” one consumer shared with DoorDash. “Recently, I got sick, which delayed my regular grocery trips that require a lot of coordination, energy, and time. Knowing that DoorDash allows the use of SNAP benefits made it much easier for me to get food, especially healthy fresh items like fruits and vegetables when I was running low. This really improved my life!”
Additionally, nearly two-thirds (61%) of surveyed consumers expressed feeling self-conscious about using SNAP benefits in-store, while 74% noted that online shopping enables them to purchase more fruits and vegetables without increasing their overall grocery spending. In the meantime, the capability to use SNAP/EBT for on-demand delivery has expanded to retailers including Cub, DashMart, Food Maxx, Giant Eagle, Jerry’s County Market, Jerry’s Foods, Lucky California, Market District, Morton Williams, Save Mart, Sheetz, and Shoppers. These new additions join other grocers and convenience stores, such as Albertsons, ALDI, Safeway, and Walgreens, that already accept SNAP/EBT payments on DoorDash. Currently, the platform features over 15,000 stores available for on-demand delivery with SNAP/EBT capabilities. DoorDash Shows How Delivery Helps SNAP Consumers Access Groceries.
“Ending hunger requires collective effort,” stated Eric Mitchell, president of the Alliance to End Hunger based in Washington, D.C. “By providing more avenues for SNAP users to access necessary groceries, DoorDash is removing barriers for thousands of individuals every day. The research from DoorDash reinforces our understanding that solutions like delivery reduce hunger, enhance access, and eliminate stigma. We are proud to collaborate with DoorDash as they continue to expand food access.”
