Empire Expands E-commerce Through Partnerships with Instacart and Uber Eats
Empire Company Limited, the Canadian food retail giant and parent of Sobeys, is enhancing its e-commerce capabilities through new partnerships with Instacart and Uber Eats. These collaborations will allow users of both platforms to access Empire’s banner stores, starting in Ontario and expanding across Canada.
The partnerships will feature Empire brands including Sobeys, FreshCo, Farm Boy, and Longo’s, providing customers with a wider selection of grocery items through the Instacart app. In Ontario alone, the rollout will encompass over 250 Empire stores, with plans for further expansion throughout Canada.
This move follows a notable partnership announced in May between Instacart and Uber Eats, which integrated hundreds of thousands of restaurants into the Instacart app under a new “Restaurants” tab.
With this new alliance, Empire joins Canada’s top five grocery chains, positioning itself as one of the 90-plus retail banners offering delivery from more than 6,000 locations nationwide. Currently, Empire’s services reach approximately 90% of Canadian households.
Doug Nathanson, Empire’s Chief Development Officer, expressed enthusiasm for the expansion, highlighting the company’s commitment to growing its e-commerce offerings and enhancing its market presence.
