Foxtrot Café and Market is set to reopen two Dallas locations in January, marking a significant step in the chain’s revival after a brief closure period. The two locations, situated at 3130 Knox St. and 6565 Hillcrest Ave., are expected to open in January, with specific dates to be announced later.

The reopening follows a challenging period for Foxtrot, which had to shut down all its stores in April 2024. The chain’s parent company, Outfox Hospitality, sold its assets to Further Point Enterprises, and Foxtrot filed for bankruptcy soon after. However, the company’s resurgence began when Mike LaVitola, the original founder, was invited back to lead the revival. LaVitola expressed his excitement about the reopening, noting the importance of re-engaging with local vendors and assembling the right team.

Since September 2024, Foxtrot has reopened five locations in Chicago, located in neighborhoods like Gold Coast, Old Town, Wicker Park, Fulton Market, and River North. The brand’s strategy involves gradually reopening previous locations, with plans to restore around 10 of its original 33 stores, primarily in Chicago and a few in Dallas.

The revamped Dallas locations will feature Foxtrot’s signature vendor products and market items from small, local makers and consumer goods brands. The updated foodservice menu will include freshly made options like panini sandwiches, salads, and bowls for lunch, as well as baked cookies. Additionally, Foxtrot is introducing new breakfast taco options in collaboration with a local artisan. The expanded taco selection will include borracho bean, brisket guisado, and grilled veggie tacos, all served on fresh tortillas.

Foxtrot’s co-founder and Dallas native, Taylor Bloom, expressed excitement about the return, stating, “We are delighted to welcome our Dallas neighbors back to our newly reopened locations on Knox Street and in Snider Plaza, University Park.” Bloom emphasized that the refreshed stores reflect the company’s commitment to working with exceptional purveyors, offering high-quality ingredients, and fostering a warm, welcoming environment for the community.

Founded in 2014, Foxtrot started as a delivery service selling snacks, beer, wine, and later evolved into a hybrid corner store and restaurant. Known for offering high-end packaged goods, prepared foods, and coffee bars, Foxtrot once garnered attention as the “convenience store of the future.” Over its history, the company raised more than $160 million to fuel its growth. However, the brand recently faced legal challenges when the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) sought to recover more than $3.8 million in back wages and benefits for 350 displaced employees following the company’s closure, citing a failure to provide the legally required 60-day notice before layoffs.
