These donations, distributed to food banks across the Midwest, demonstrate the grocer’s ongoing commitment to combatting food insecurity in the communities it serves. Fresh Thyme Market Donates 3.4 Million Meals to Feeding America.

“Since our inception, Fresh Thyme has proudly invested both time and resources to promote healthier families and alleviate hunger in local communities throughout the Midwest,” said Liz Zolcak, president of Fresh Thyme Market, in a news release. “Through collaboration with our Fresh Thyme team and customers in collecting donations via our partnership with Feeding America, we have been able to donate over $1 million, equating to 100 million meals, ensuring that those in need have access to nutritious grocery items for themselves and their families.”

Fresh Thyme achieves this commitment through several initiatives, including:

  • The Round Up at the Register program, which allows customers to donate by rounding up their purchase totals.
  • The Grab and Give initiative, enabling shoppers to buy prebagged groceries at checkout, which are then donated directly to local food banks.
  • The Food Rescue program, which has contributed over 800,000 meals, amounting to more than 132,000 pounds of donated products from its stores.
  • Open house events throughout the year, celebrating community engagement through product demonstrations and cooking classes. For instance, during Fresh Thyme’s 10th birthday this year, the company hosted special festivities and tastings, donating $5,000 to the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Additionally, Fresh Thyme team members engage in volunteer efforts year-round, building connections within the community by assisting organizations like the Northern Illinois Food Bank, St. Louis Food Bank, West Suburban Community Pantry, and Northside Food Pantry of Indiana to create, package, or deliver essential resources to those in need.

September is recognized as Hunger Action Month, an annual initiative aimed at raising awareness and inspiring collective action to end hunger, bolstered by Fresh Thyme’s new partnership with the FMI Foundation, creators of Family Meals Month.
