Giant Eagle has announced an expansion of its partnership with Flybuy, an omnichannel location platform, to improve last-mile delivery and significantly reduce avoidable delivery driver wait times by 50% or more. This enhanced collaboration aims to streamline operations for third-party delivery drivers while offering real-time alerts through an integrated app.

According to the Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania-based grocer, the average wait time for grocery delivery drivers to pick up an order is typically less than 10 minutes. However, with the new technology, wait times have been reduced to an impressive average of just 2.5 minutes. This AI-powered location technology enhances driver selection and coordination by identifying which driver is arriving for specific orders, thereby optimizing the delivery process.

This improved tech partnership marks the third such announcement from Giant Eagle in recent months. In June, the grocer revealed that shoppers could utilize SNAP benefits through the Instacart app and website, along with the Upside app, to access cash-back promotions on groceries, fuel, and convenience items.

Giant Eagle operates more than 470 stores across Western Pennsylvania, North Central Ohio, Northern West Virginia, Maryland, and Indiana.
