Giant Eagle Finalizes $1.57B Sale of GetGo Gas Stations to Couche-Tard
Giant Eagle GetGo Sale Finalized in $1.57 Billion Deal
Giant Eagle has officially completed the $1.57 billion Giant Eagle GetGo sale to global convenience leader Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. The deal includes 270 GetGo gas stations across five states.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) approved the acquisition on June 26 after months of regulatory review. To address competition concerns, Couche-Tard agreed to sell 35 locations, including one GetGo property.
What the Giant Eagle GetGo Sale Means for Consumers
The Giant Eagle GetGo sale transfers ownership of fuel outlets in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Maryland, and West Virginia to Couche-Tard. However, customers can expect the GetGo brand and its popular myPerks loyalty program to remain unchanged.
“This sale marks an important milestone in Giant Eagle’s history,” said Bill Artman, president and CEO of Giant Eagle. “It allows us to invest even more in the communities we serve while preserving the myPerks program.”
Couche-Tard will maintain GetGo as a separate business unit. Mike Maraldo, a 33-year Giant Eagle veteran, will lead operations as vice president. The company will also keep senior staff and support teams based in Pennsylvania.
FTC Ensures Competition in Fuel Markets
The FTC required Couche-Tard to divest 35 gas stations, preventing reduced competition that could lead to higher fuel prices. Majors Management LLC, based in Georgia, will acquire those locations.
“The FTC’s action preserves competition and protects consumers from price hikes at the pump,” said Daniel Guarnera of the FTC. The commission will closely monitor retail fuel markets to ensure fair pricing continues.
Who Is Couche-Tard?
Couche-Tard operates over 16,700 stores worldwide, including its well-known Circle K brand. Nearly 13,100 of those stores sell road transportation fuel, making it a leader in convenience and fuel retail.
With this acquisition, Couche-Tard strengthens its U.S. network and expands its footprint in the Midwest and beyond.
