H-E-B, the San Antonio-based grocery chain, has officially announced the integration of digital tap-to-pay services in its stores, allowing customers to make payments using their smartphone wallets. This exciting new payment option was unveiled on Monday and is set to enhance the shopping experience for patrons at H-E-B and Mi Tienda locations.

The phased rollout began on October 7, enabling shoppers to use popular digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, and Google Pay. Customers can now utilize this convenient payment method at all cash registers, self-checkout lanes, and in-store restaurants and pharmacies. However, it’s important to note that while the digital wallet technology will not be available at H-E-B fuel pumps, customers can still use tap-to-pay for gas purchases at the payment window.

“At H-E-B, we’re always exploring a broad range of technologies to enhance how customers shop and pay for products,” said Ashwin Nathan, H-E-B Group Vice President of Marketing and Payments. “This has been one of the most requested services we have received from our customers and partners, and we are excited to now make this popular technology available at all our H-E-B locations.”

The grocery chain had previously introduced tap-to-pay at its Central Market and Joe V’s Smart Shop stores over the summer, paving the way for this broader implementation. H-E-B operates 435 stores across Texas and Mexico, and the rollout will kick off in San Antonio, taking about a month to complete across all locations.

This move underscores H-E-B’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction, making it easier than ever for shoppers to pay for their groceries and other purchases.
