Shopify’s September data reveals that shoppers are preparing for the holidays and ready to decorate their homes.

As the holiday season approaches, shoppers are focusing on essential items to ensure their homes are festively decorated, according to the latest sales data from Shopify, shared exclusively with Retail Brew. In September, Christmas tree stands and Advent calendars were at the forefront of Shopify customers’ minds, with these items ranking among the top sellers for the month.

Orders for Christmas tree stands surged by 81%, while sales of Advent calendars increased by 74%. Additionally, wreaths and floral frames saw a 73% boost in sales. Other holiday essentials, such as holiday stockings, ornaments, and wrapping paper, also experienced notable increases.

As the holidays prompt a desire to declutter, orders for household storage bags skyrocketed by 209%. Sales of household storage drawers rose by 89%, and spice organizers saw a 40% increase.

September also marked a focus on self-care, with sales for items like hair clippers and trimmer accessories soaring more than 264%. Dental tool sets closely followed with a 256% rise in sales. Refillable makeup palettes and cases experienced a 92% increase, while hair curlers saw a 33% boost.

With the arrival of fall, shoppers are also preparing for seasonal baking, purchasing spices like cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and nutmeg. Sales of spice grinders jumped by 178% in September, while apples and hot drink makers also saw significant increases of 170% and 50%, respectively.

For winter sports enthusiasts, upgrading equipment is a priority. Ski bindings, sleds, and related accessories topped their shopping lists, with snowmobiles and ski boots both up by 94%, and ski poles increasing by 56%.

Overall, the data suggests that in September, Christmas tree stands and Advent calendars were at the forefront of Shopifycustomers’ minds, highlighting the shift in consumer focus as the holidays draw near.
