Loblaw Introduces New Smaller, Simpler Store Concept in Ontario

Loblaw has launched its first No Name store in LaSalle, Ontario, marking the introduction of a new, more streamlined concept aimed at offering value to customers. This new store format is part of a pilot program that will be tested in three Ontario locations, with additional stores planned for St. Catharines and Brockville.

The No Name stores are designed to cut operating costs through a variety of measures. These include shortened hours (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.), simplified operations with smaller product assortments, the exclusion of refrigerated goods like dairy and fresh meat, the use of recycled building materials, fewer weekly deliveries, and minimal store marketing.

Thanks to these cost-saving strategies, Loblaw will offer products at its No Name stores for 20% less than the typical retail price. Each location will stock around 1,300 products, focusing on frozen foods, pantry staples, household necessities, and a limited range of produce and shelf-stable bakery items.

Loblaw plans to evaluate the success of the No Name concept over the next six months to determine whether to expand the format or close the pilot locations.
