Loblaw Companies Ltd. is gearing up for significant growth with plans to open 80 new stores across Canada in 2025. This expansion aligns with the company’s $1.54 billion investment strategy, strengthening its presence nationwide.

Loblaw’s Expansion Strategy

The Loblaw New Stores plan includes opening 50 hard-discount stores under banners like No Frills, Maxi, and No Name. Additionally, Loblaw will expand its Shoppers Drug Mart, Pharmaprix, and T&T Supermarket brands. This strategic growth also follows Loblaw’s entry into the U.S. market with a T&T Supermarket in Bellevue, Washington. Further expansion into Washington and California is expected.

To enhance its healthcare services, Loblaw will introduce 100 new Shoppers Drug Mart pharmacy care clinics, providing accessible care to Canadian communities.

Strengthening the Supply Chain

The Loblaw New Stores expansion also includes a 1.2 million-square-foot distribution center in East Gwillimbury, Ontario. This facility aims to improve logistics and enhance supply chain efficiency, ensuring better product availability for customers.

Competing in Canada’s Retail Market

Loblaw’s aggressive expansion follows Walmart Canada’s announcement of multiple new Supercentres opening in Ontario and Alberta. By investing heavily in new stores and modernizing its operations, Loblaw aims to stay competitive and meet growing consumer demands.

Loblaw’s investment is expected to generate 8,000 new jobs in 2025, supporting economic growth. CEO Per Bank emphasized the company’s commitment to promoting Canadian-made products through its Small Supplier program, offering customers greater value.
