Meat Sales Surge Despite Rising Prices

Meat sales surge across retail markets, showing resilience despite inflation concerns. Consumers continue buying meat as part of their weekly shopping routine.

Strong Growth in Meat Sales

According to Circana, total fresh meat volume rose 3.4% to 16.5 billion pounds in 2024. Even with a 3.6% price increase, consumers still chose meat options. The average price per pound reached $4.45.

Among major proteins, beef sales grew 5.1% despite a 5% price hike. Chicken sales rose 3% as prices increased by 1.1%. Pork experienced a 1.2% increase even with prices climbing 2.6%.

Shoppers Prefer At-Home Dining

More consumers cook at home due to rising restaurant costs. Family meals remain popular, boosting meat sales. Shoppers also favor protein-rich diets, further increasing meat consumption.

Ground Meats Gain Popularity

Ground meats remain a top choice for budget-conscious families. Ground beef sales rose 4% despite a 5.6% price hike. Ground turkey, chicken, and pork also saw increases. Retailers strategically market ground meats to encourage variety in home cooking.

Convenience-Driven Meat Purchases Rise

Consumers increasingly prefer convenient options like rotisserie chicken and boneless thighs. Chicken thigh sales rose 3.9% despite a 4.5% price hike. Pre-seasoned and portioned meat selections also gained popularity.
