Meijer Enters Thanksgiving Price Wars with $37 Meal Promotion
Meijer has joined the competitive Thanksgiving price wars, offering a full Thanksgiving meal for four to six people for just around $37, although shoppers will need to do most of the cooking themselves.
The Walker, Mich.-based retailer is also rolling out Meijer brand frozen turkeys priced at 49 cents per pound or lower through Nov. 30.
The $37 meal deal includes a 14-pound turkey and all the ingredients needed to prepare traditional sides like mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, and cranberry sauce. Also included are stuffing, gravy, dinner rolls, and a pumpkin pie.
In anticipation of the Thanksgiving rush, Meijer expects to sell over 1 million turkeys and 9 million pounds of russet and sweet potatoes in the weeks leading up to the holiday.
Grocers have increasingly turned to Thanksgiving meal deals as a way to engage consumers still feeling the effects of inflation. Last month, Aldi introduced a similar offer for $47 for a meal serving 10 people. Other retailers, including Walmart, Dollar General, and Giant Eagle, have also jumped on the Thanksgiving meal deal bandwagon.
Fresh turkeys will be available at all Meijer stores starting the week of Nov. 17, with a limit of one turkey per customer for Meijer brand options.
