Sam’s Club Prepares Texas Store Featuring No Checkout Area
Sam’s Club is poised to revolutionize the shopping experience with the upcoming launch of a new store in Grapevine, Texas, that will feature no checkout area. This initiative represents a significant leap toward frictionless shopping, aligning with the increasing adoption of the retailer’s Scan & Go app.
According to Chris Nicholas, CEO and President of Sam’s Club, the usage of the Scan & Go app has surged to 30%, allowing customers to scan items and complete their purchases without waiting in traditional checkout lines. This new store, set to open on October 17, will exclusively use Scan & Go, reflecting a growing trend among shoppers who prefer a more efficient shopping experience.
In place of the conventional checkout space, the Grapevine location will showcase online-only offers, including unique items like a 12-foot Christmas tree. Customers will be able to scan QR codes for these products within the store and access them through the Sam’s Club app. Additionally, there will be designated areas for associates to prepare orders for both pickup and home delivery.
Sam’s Club, headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, is focused on enhancing technology for both customers and employees this year. The retailer has implemented advanced systems in its warehouses, capturing over 23 million images daily of club inventory. This technology aids associates by connecting to their personal devices or smartphones, providing real-time guidance on their next tasks.
“This year we will take a hundred million tasks out of the club,” Nicholas shared during the recent Groceryshop industry event in Las Vegas. This efficiency will allow associates to dedicate more time to engaging with members, thereby enhancing the overall shopping experience.
With over 600 locations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, Sam’s Club is committed to transforming the retail landscape by leveraging technology to create a more streamlined and customer-centric environment.
