These six locations have undergone comprehensive interior and exterior renovations, showcasing Save A Lot’s and Yellow Banana’s dedication to providing fresh, affordable groceries while bolstering the local economy and community.

The first store to reopen was the one at 420 South Pulaski Road on September 6. Following this, Save A Lot and Yellow Banana are set to reopen additional stores at 10700 South Halsted St., 2858 East 83rd St., 7240 South Stony Island Ave., 7908 South Halsted St., and 4439 West 63rd St. later this fall. The renovations include new flooring, lighting, equipment, HVAC systems, as well as upgraded dairy and meat cases, paint, décor, fixtures, and signage.

The initiative to revitalize the Save A Lot brand in Chicago is the result of collaboration between Yellow Banana, the city of Chicago, and local representatives, including 28th Ward Alderman Jason C. Ervin and 17th Ward Alderman David Moore. Community organizations like the Garfield Park Community Council and Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation have also played a crucial role.

“We are proud to take steps to reintroduce the Save A Lot brand to Chicago by reopening our stores,” stated Joe Canfield, CEO of Yellow Banana. “I’m confident that the investment made to remodel and upgrade these stores will enhance the customer experience significantly. We appreciate the city of Chicago, the surrounding communities, and Save A Lot for their support and patience throughout this process. We look forward to serving these neighborhoods with pride.”

Save A Lot and Yellow Banana are set to reopen six remodeled stores in Chicago, despite facing challenges during the process. These included construction delays, equipment setbacks due to supply chain issues, and utility connection problems following vandalism that left two stores without power for nearly three months. However, Yellow Banana continued to pay employees during the renovations, and significant progress has been achieved.

To celebrate the grand reopening of the Pulaski store, Save A Lot and Yellow Banana partnered with local charity Above and Beyond to offer a grocery shopping spree for the individuals they serve. Additionally, they are hosting six days of giveaways, kicking off with a free tote bag filled with Save A Lot products for the first 100 customers at the September 6 reopening event. A community fair is also planned for September 7, featuring music, balloon art, and complimentary food.

“It was essential for us to take the time and care needed to remodel the stores in a manner that positions the business for long-term success and meets community needs for years to come,” explained Bill Mayo, chief development officer at Save A Lot. “Save A Lot has a strong commitment to supporting its retail partners, and we look forward to continuing our support for Yellow Banana as these stores reopen.”
