Schnuck Markets Issues Recall for Private Label Cheese Spreads Over Salmonella Contamination Risk

Schnuck Markets has issued a recall for three of its private label cheese spreads due to potential contamination with salmonella. The recall was prompted after the retailer was notified by its vendor, Topco Associates, that Schreiber Foods, the supplier, had received a recall notice for an ingredient—whey protein concentrate—that could be contaminated with the harmful bacteria.

The affected products, which were pulled from shelves at 107 out of 115 Schnuck locations, include the following cheese spreads:

  • Schnucks Whip Cream Spread (UPC 4131858005; Best By 8/8/2024)
  • Schnucks Strawberry Spread (UPC 4131858007; Best By 9/8/2024)
  • Schnucks Cream Cheese Spread (UPC 4131858023; Best By 10/8/2024)

According to Schnucks, no illnesses have been reported related to the products. The company, in collaboration with its supplier, has moved quickly to remove the affected items from store shelves to prevent any potential health risks.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled products are advised to dispose of them or return them to the store for a full refund. Schnucks has reassured customers that the recall was initiated as a precautionary measure, and they are working closely with Schreiber Foods and their supplier to ensure food safety protocols are followed.

For more information, Schnucks customers can contact the store’s customer service or visit the retailer’s website for updates. This recall highlights the ongoing efforts in the food industry to ensure the safety of products and to protect public health from foodborne illnesses like salmonella.
