SpartanNash to Acquire Markham Enterprises Convenience Stores
SpartanNash, based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has signed an asset purchase agreement to acquire Markham Enterprises, a chain of three convenience stores and fuel distributors located in mid-Michigan. The transaction involves the following locations:
- Road Trip Oasis Sunoco in Perry
- Outlet Oasis Marathon in Howell
- Dunkel Sunoco in Lansing
While the terms of the deal have not been disclosed, the acquisition is expected to close in early December 2024. SpartanNash plans to retain all 42 employees from Markham Enterprises as part of the transition.
Masiar Tayebi, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy and Information Officer at SpartanNash, emphasized that Markham Enterprises aligns well with the company’s goal to expand its fuel center and convenience store operations. He noted that the acquisition is part of SpartanNash’s strategic growth plans and their ongoing investment in this segment, including refreshing their existing fuel centers.
Denise Markham, President and CEO of Markham Enterprises, expressed confidence in SpartanNash’s business model and its commitment to a “people-first” culture, stating that she is excited about the future expansion of the business in the Perry, Howell, and Lansing communities.
SpartanNash operates two main business segments: food wholesale and grocery retail. It serves a broad range of customers, including independent and chain grocers, national retail brands, and U.S. military commissaries. The company runs 147 grocery stores under various banners, as well as 36 convenience stores across Michigan.
