Each year, Nespresso unveils limited-edition flavors, often delighting coffee aficionados with unique, festive blends. However, its 2024 offering, the almond croissant capsule, is leaving some fans underwhelmed. Designed to evoke the indulgent experience of a Parisian café, this capsule is described by Nespresso as having smooth notes of sweet vanilla, almond, caramel, butter, and pastries. But for many coffee lovers, the reality doesn’t live up to the description.

Part of a festive advent calendar created in partnership with Michelin-starred chef Jean Imbert and luxury train company Belmond, the almond croissant capsule makes its debut on day four. The romantic travel-inspired calendar includes coffee pods, chocolates, biscuits, and a mug on the final day. While the almond croissant flavor aims to transport drinkers symbolically to Paris, many are complaining about its overly artificial taste. Some compare it to cheap marzipan or even liken its flavor to a “paper bag.”

Modifying the Flavor

The capsule’s Arabica base blends Brazilian and Colombian beans roasted to medium darkness, with the almond croissant flavor added post-roasting. Despite Nespresso’s recommendation to enjoy it as a cappuccino to enhance its tasting notes, many consumers find the flavor lacking. To make it more enjoyable, some creative coffee drinkers have experimented by adding ingredients like honey, vanilla paste, flavored syrups, or creamers to mask the artificial taste.

Mixed Reviews

While some are turned off by the flavor, others are stocking up on the capsules for their kitchens. Fans of the festive calendar may find a few enjoyable surprises among its daily treats. For those looking for variety, Nespresso’s advent calendar remains a fun option, though the almond croissant capsule might be a miss for many.

Whether you’re a fan of festive blends or prefer sticking to the classics, this limited edition is proving to be a gamble for coffee lovers this season.
