Walgreens Now Accepting Online Use of Medicare Advantage Supplemental Benefits
Walgreens Boots Alliance has recently announced that it will now accept a wide range of Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits online, available through Walgreens and the Walgreens app. This move allows eligible Medicare Advantage members to shop for and purchase approximately 1,700 eligible items digitally, expanding the convenience of accessing OTC (over-the-counter) products beyond in-store visits.
Since 2019, Medicare Advantage members have been able to use their supplemental benefits to shop in Walgreens stores, but with this new online capability, they can now enjoy the same benefits from the comfort of their homes. This expansion reflects Walgreens’ commitment to enhancing accessibility and convenience for its customers, particularly seniors and those with specific healthcare needs.
Who is eligible to use Walgreens Medicare Advantage online benefits?
Walgreens accepts Medicare Advantage supplemental benefits from a variety of well-known providers. To determine eligibility, customers can visit their Medicare Advantage plan’s website or call the number on the back of their Medicare Advantage card to confirm whether their supplemental benefits can be used for online purchases through Walgreens.
Once verified, eligible members can browse available products on Walgreens or through the Walgreens app by visiting the retailer’s dedicated OTC landing page. The online platform will display a list of eligible items based on the customer’s specific plan, along with common OTC products available across various plans.
To complete their purchases, eligible OTC items can be paid for using available card funds from the member’s Medicare Advantage plan. However, any items not covered by the OTC supplemental benefits will require a different form of payment.
This initiative brings significant convenience to Medicare Advantage members, allowing them to more easily manage their healthcare and medication needs by shopping online at Walgreens. It also aligns with Walgreens’ ongoing efforts to improve the customer experience, making healthcare products more accessible in a digital world.
